I added ads from The Lounge a couple months ago and have been very pleased with them. The network is running a server for member blog visitors, so if you’re into that sort of thing, you can take the survey which will enter you in a drawing to win all 41 Manning in Action books.
I do my best to avoid blogging about the blog itself, but there’s a few notable items.
The Lounge
Google AdSense is out, The Lounge is in. I’m pleased to be the newest member of The Lounge Advertising Network’s Small Publishers Room. I read a lot of the blogs in this room and I’m honored to be included amongst them. I’m going to have to step up the quality level to keep up with the others as there is a lot of quality content coming out of that group. Which leads me to the next item…
The Blog
I’ve decided to put a lot more emphasis on blogging this year. I set an obtainable goal (52 posts, not counting this one) and have been mulling over some ideas for generating more interesting posts about more than just .NET. I’ll be still blogging about the usual .NET web development stuff (especially ASP.NET MVC, my new BFF) but there will be more commentary on current technology issues. Hopefully you will find it interesting.
I also want to create some new cheat sheets and update the existing ones. The cheat sheets have been much more popular than I expected they ever would be. I’m glad people are finding them useful and I don’t want to let them languish.
I’ve also got a web site in the works that I’m hoping will become your new favorite site (not joking). If you like discussing and keeping up with the latest .NET stuff, you’re going to like this site. More on this to come. Once I get the first version up, I’ll talk about it more.
Lastly and fittingly, least importantly, the blog name has changed. Gone is the inside joke that only one person reading this blog would even get and in with the new, much more descriptive “John Sheehan : Blog”. Fancy huh?
I’ve started up a blog to cover the intersection of sports and technology called (wait for it, this is good) SportsTechBlog.com. I’ve been running this blog for awhile through The Press Box on my RIM Systems site but now I’ve decided to spin it off into its own site. Check it out and let me know what you think!
I found a theme I liked, made a bunch of changes and implemented it on the site. Thanks to Ericulous for his initial work.
I used to blog back before people knew what that was. Someday I may post all the old posts because there’s some good stuff in there. I was running for Mayor of Oakdale at the time so I had some good source material. Now, well I don’t have a story to tell really. I just want to write more. So I’m writing here.
I hated the term “blog” then and I still hate it now, but using a different word would only seem elitist, so I’ll go with it. My hang up with blogging is that I always feel compelled to write elaborate and eloquent posts which I’m not particularly good at. We’ll see what happens, but don’t expect anything groundbreaking.
Once I find a WordPress theme that’s not garbage or overly used, I’ll update the site to look a lot better and add all those other cool things the bloggers love. Like pictures from Flickr and badges and widgets and crap like that. And Marc (who’s not actually reading this) if you’re lucky, maybe even a couple animated GIFs!
