i actually prefer to develop on unbuntu to os x – textmate is cool, but you can tweak gedit. i'm also a .net guy by day – making the move to linux was hard for me too as i was used to being very productive in .net. you aren't just learning a new language, it's also a new and very customizable stack. if you aren't ready to make the move over there's always asp.net mvc.
