Yahoo Axis

Although mobile devices like the iPad come with embedded browsers, Batraski says the product has Apple’s blessing. He also said that Apple reps have told him they’re not throwing many resources into Apple’s own iOS browser, Safari.

I have a hard time believing this quote. First off, App Store approval is not “Apple’s blessing” and if Apple really said that to him about Mobile Safari, it’s not something I’d go repeating publicly lest Apple have a chance of stance on other browsers.

I downloaded Axis and it’s overwhelming and doesn’t follow the platform UI conventions. I don’t know how anyone expects looking at thumbnails to be faster than scanning text. It sure feels like more work to me. I’m glad to see people keep trying to innovate in the browser, but this is not the future.
