Another one of my absolute favorite services (where’s the sarcasm font when you need it most?), Typepad does something really subtle when logging in, but noticeable enough to drive me crazy. After you click ‘Sign in’ the password box clears! I have no idea why. The first time it happened I thought I had entered the wrong password and the page had reloaded.
Little ‘something’s wrong’ interactions like this may seem insignificant in the singular, but if you have a lot of them, or one that frequently happens, they start making your users feel like they’re having a bad experience, without them even noticing why. They just slowly resent your app more and more until they either give up or get complacent.
